August 2021 - May 2023: VP of Engineering at Squire Solutions Inc (www.squiresolutions.com)
Established the roadmap and system architecture for a distributed application using Natural Language Processing, Secure Memory Safe Message Passing and Device Drivers that enabled Workflow Configuration, Speech to TXT Messaging, Remote and Voice Activated UAV/UAS Drone Control and report generation for law enforcement and special operations forces on secure priority offline networks
Coded in RUST, Android SDK, and HTML/Vue3, using VSC in addition to being the lead technical co-author of 5 winning DOD-SBIR II grants worth over $3.2M. Co-invented base technology for the 4 patent applications founding the company. Established career ladders, mentored team members, and provided Rust and JNI training.
Planned, hired and founded the software team of 11 individual contributors. Generated SOPs, SecDevOPs plans, roadmaps, managed budgets, fusing the technology vision together to launch the first version of the SaSS product.
Feb 2020 - Feb 2019: CTO (Co-Founder) at BeeTimer Inc (www.beetimer.com)
Envisioned a new means of gathering KPIs for the restaurant industry using IOT sensor networks to reduce wait times, improve employee morale, and increase profitability for restaurant owners leading to the founding of a bootstrapped startup BeeTimer Inc.
Built core technical elements for the usage model and initial proof points, leading to a first customer signed PaSS deal for a chain of fast casual dinning stores. As founder wrote 3 patents designed schematics and board design designs with WiFi/BT/RFID, managed suppliers and manufacturers, and developed in C++, Python, JS, HTML, and PostSQL.
Produced a holistic plan business plan with technology project planning and roadmap, hiring budget, go to market plans, and deployment strategies to meet our target. The effort led to production of system architecture, hardware schematics, firmware, middleware, server systems for the first installations.
Formed a team of 8 software developers in Europe, and 3 full-time employees in San Diego to drive the development and deployment of the system in less than four months. Company was acquired by a point of sale vendor
Jun 2018 - Feb 2019: CTO (Contractor) at Nytec Inc (www.nytec.com)
Hired as Contract CTO to lead a team of 320 FTEs with a $65M budget to improve development processes and establish unique IP that would increase the valuation for acquisition. Nytec Inc, specialized in turning innovative ideas into consumer electronics and IoT-based products for Fortune 100 companies but lacked unique assets to increase it’s multiplier.
After a short period of observation worked with existing staff to improve morale through open communication, process improvements, establishing a formalized SOP and agile process, employee mentorship chains, and career development plans. Cycle times from bid to development decreased by 15%.
Drove the creation of two new product lines. The first was an artificial intelligent facial recognition system for Carnival Cruise Lines coupled with a wearable device for access and guest payment resulting in a 10x revenue increase and 40% margin increase for the customer. Additionally these efforts were recognized in the industry receiving two Red Dot Awards and the Gold IoT Innovator Award for Best Commercial & Industrial Hardware Design. The second product was RF spectrum recon system for T-Mobile which brought a 200% margin into Nytec. These efforts in part led to Nytec being sold to Accenture.
Jan 2017 - Jun 2018: CTO at Safariland LLC (www.safariland.com)
Sought out for employment by Safariland LLC leader in law enforcement gear to ramp their recently acquired body camera business to go from fifth to first in the market place while leading and mentoring technical contributors throughout their portfolio of brands.
Conceived and prototyped the first commercial smart holster product and other duty gear which automatically managed the body camera for law enforcement and first responders. Working with the multidisciplinary team created the product design and manufacturer units in record time. Managed the certification through FCC and CE leading to the deployment in police departments in major markets. By delighting our customers our market share went from #5 to #2 in only 4 months post product launch.
Consulted on various wearable brands within the Safariland Group, including Mustang Survival, MEDENG, and Tactical Communications Industries.
Due to the success of the smart holster the technology and body camera business was sold to Axon Inc.
Jun 2013 - Jan 2017: Fellow and Vice President of Wearables at HP Inc (www.hp.com)
Chartered by HP Inc to found a wearables and IOT business division. With a scant budget and an eight month window to create a revenue generating business designed, developed and deployed an original smart watch with an award winning designer Michael Bastian. Blazing the industry timeline drove the team of two to product sales in seven months. The entire years worth of inventory was sold out within 3 hours online with no marketing or advertising.
Success led to the establishment of two teams of 65 FTEs and $10M budget ramped within four months time. Wearables group ended up creating 40 different smart watch designs, from 12 different fashion brands and 2 industrial wearables products. The smart watch designs included custom hardware, mobile application in iOS and AndroidOS, as well as AWS deployments.
Conducted research and prototyping leading to products in smart shoes, smart luggage and baggage and smart jewelry products all branded with “Engineered by HP”.
Managed and mentored the technical team, creating value through creation of IP and IP management with generational process improvements cutting design and development time by 75% for all types of smart watches.
